Watching Korean series can be more than entertainment: a good drama can help you power up your language skills. With online resources, you can easily work a good K-drama into your learning schedule. Netflix has some great options for K-drama fans. Some of the highest-rated shows include Squid Game, Divorce Attorney Shin and Alchemy of Souls.

Move To Heaven

With their love triangles, skincare product placements and knights in shining armor, traditional ดูซีรี่ย์เกาหลี dramas can be a little too formulaic. Thankfully, Netflix seems to be on the cusp of changing that, with a growing roster of shows tackling topics like trans representation and teenage bullying.

Move to Heaven is one of these, and it’s a fascinating, touching show that explores very real issues facing contemporary South Korea. It’s a series that puts faces to the statistics that tell us overwork, income inequality and deteriorating Confucian norms are contributing to the rising numbers of older people who die alone. But it also elevates these stories with the genuinely captivating performances of its leads. The ten episodes feel quick to fly by, thanks to the brisk writing and multi-layered characters.

Vagabond

Vagabond is a manga series based on the story of Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi. It has been serialized in Kodansha’s seinen manga magazine Morning since 1998 and is currently collected in 37 tankobon volumes. It is known for its depictions of the throbbing clash of samurai’s katana and their pure resolve in battle. The game is in Early Access, meaning that it will undergo significant changes while in development. The developer has invited the Community to get involved, and their feedback will be decisive in ensuring that the game is balanced and fun.

The Heirs

A group of privileged high school students prepare to inherit their families’ business empires. But with the world at their feet comes the burden of success and a lot of pressure. Kim Tan, the heir to a conglomerate company, was banished to the United States by his older half-brother for trying to take over the business. In America, he meets the 17-year-old daughter of his family’s housekeeper, Cha Eun Sang.

The pair reunites at an exclusive high school for the uber rich. However, they are polar opposites: Eun Sang is from an impoverished background while Tan has the privilege of being an heiress. Things get complicated when Young Do, the heir to a luxury resort company, starts picking on Eun Sang to irritate her.

The Prince And The Pauper

On a fall day in the mid-16th century, two boys are born who look exactly alike. One of them is Prince Edward Tudor, son of King Henry VIII, and the other is Tom Canty, an orphan living with his abusive father in London. When they meet, they switch clothing and lives. During their many adventures, both discover that they lead very different lifestyles. Despite Tom’s innate kindness and good heart, he finds it difficult to act in a princely manner.

This tale by Mark Twain is an interesting social satire that shows how appearances can be deceiving. It also teaches that anyone, regardless of their social status, deserves to be treated with dignity. This story was later adapted into a Disney cartoon and a 2011 episode of Phineas and Ferb.

Goo Hae-Ryung

I’m only a few episodes in but so far I really enjoy this series. It’s nice to see empowered female characters in a story for once. It also goes against the sexist stereotype that women are only good at breeding and keeping house. The story revolves around Goo Hae-ryung, a free-spirited historian who refuses to comply with the idealistic view of women in the Joseon Dynasty. She fights for what she believes is right through her written words instead of using the sword like her peers.

She is a heroine that everyone can relate to. Her fearless and strong character shows how far she’s willing to go for the sake of history. I can’t wait to see more of her in future episodes! What do you think?
